1. Kept or regarded as inviolate from ordinary use, and appropriated or set apart for religious use or observance; consecrated, dedicated, sacred.
2. Specifically belonging to, commissioned by, or devoted to God.
Volta: (mid 1600s)
1. A borrowing from Italian, feminine past participle of volgere, volvere, to turn.
2. A sort of dance of Italian origin, in which the man turns the woman several times, and then assists her to make a leap or jump.
